Annotating (Word 6.0)- |
Text that is added but hidden. When text is annotated, there will be an annotation icon on the word that is annotated, and clicking on that icon will open up a smaller window with the added, annotated text. |
| Application- | Software program such as Microsoft WordÒ or Netscape NavigatorÒ . These programs allow us to do the work we want to do on the computer. |
| Attachment- | A file that is attached to an email message. |
| Click- | Pressing once with the mouse button (left mouse button for PC users) |
| Commenting (Word 97/98)- | The same as annotating in Word 6.0. When comments are added to a document, there will be an comment icon, and clicking on that icon will open up a smaller window with the added comments. |
| Desktop- | Your computer screen when no applications are open. When a file is saved to the desktop, you will be able to see it there on the screen when no other applications are running or windows are open. |
| Downloading- | Saving a file from the internet onto your computer. |
| Double-click- | Clicking twice in quick succession with the mouse button (left mouse button for PC users) |
| Email- | Electronic mail message sent over the internet. |
| HomePage- | Also known a web page. A file on the internet that you access through a web browser. |
| Link- | Text or a picture/graphic on a web page that is clickable.
Links will take you to a different web page when clicked. When the mouse
passes over a line of text or a graphic that is a link, the mouse pointer

| Listservs- | A listserv as an electronic mailing list. They are usually subject specific and members of the list must subscribe to it in order to receive and send email to the list. |
| POW- | Plans of Work |
| Tracking- | Text that denotes changes made to a document. Words that
are meant to be deleted are |
| Tracking/Locking- | Protecting the document with a password so reviewers cannot change the original text, but are restricted to editing the document using the tracking feature. |
| Web Browser- | Software program that allows you to view web pages. Examples of web browsers are Netscape NavigatorÒ and Microsoft Internet ExplorerÒ. |
| Window- | When a program is started, like Microsoft WordÒ or NetscapeÒ , the program opens a window. This a framed box that appears on your screen that you can type in, resize, move, open and close. You can have more than one window open at a time on your screen and they will overlap each other. |
